FIRE SAFETY with Guest speaker:- Mr Shane McCluskey - Fire Rescue Victoria
Shane is a professional Firefighter and has been since 1990 with Fire Rescue Victoria and he now holds the rank of Station Officer. He is currently in the role of Multicultural Liaison Officer. For much of that time, he has worked in and around the City of Monash.
Shane commenced his presentation by asking the audience what they thought the role of Fire Rescue Victoria was.
From the replies he built up a picture of the responsibilities in fighting fires, providing initial emergency care in conjunction with Ambulance Victoria, the SES, and Victoria Police. He then concentrated on Fire Safety in the home, and the necessity of having sufficient working smoke detectors/fire alarms. He spoke about taking care when charging batteries and choosing correct location and support surface to prevent overheating. Also the need to ensure that you can easily exit your home in case of emergency (not having to search for a key), not to go back inside, and to have a planned exit route and meeting point to allow quick accountability of people.
The evening ended with a cuppa and cake.

It was an active morning with Monash SES who ran the sausage sizzle, and had an SES van to show people and seek additional volunteers. The weather was cool and damp initially but cleared to a warm and pleasant morning.
NHW Monash in conjunction with Victoria Police had over 200 vehicles fitted with one-way screws, and more packs of screws were handed out for people to DIY.
One-way screws reduce the risk of your number plates being stolen.
Stolen number plates are used on stolen cars and used in serious crime as well as petrol theft.
_____
"The weather was cool, overcast with a light wind. It was at a new venue (Bunnings Oakleigh, cnr Centre Rd and Warrigal Rd Oakleigh South). There was a bit of a learning curve with traffic flow, with the occasional Woolworths semi-trailer coming thru'.
Bunnings had supplied many traffic cones and a lady with a SLOW/STOP sign. Police members solicited customers at the Centre Rd.. entry and directed them to the traffic lane. There were about 5 Police members assisting and we had about 15 volunteers doing screw replacement.
This year we were not allowed to remove LICENCE PLATE COVERS and could only supply screws to owners to fit DIY. We were advised that 206 vehicles had screws replaced."

4th Jan 2021. With regard to an ABC investigation into a Chinese businessman, "Haha" Lui and reference to the the Australian Emergency Assistance Association that he has founded as being a 'neighbourhood watch', please note that Neighbourhood Watch Victoria has no connection to the AEAA Inc. Suggesting that the AEAA is in some way a neighbourhood watch is misleading. The activities and policies of the 2 organisations are vastly different.

The committee charged with studying the best course of action addressed the June 2018 State Forum.
