We are proud to announce the formation of a partnership between Neighbourhood Watch Monash, Monash Police (Victoria Police), and the administrators of local suburb/community Facebook groups across the Monash LGA area. This alliance brings together three pillars of our community — dedicated volunteers, local police officers, and the connected networks of our online neighbourhoods — with a shared commitment to keeping our community safer and our residents better informed.
At the heart of this alliance is a simple but powerful idea: that accurate, timely information builds trust and confidence in communities. Too often, rumour and speculation can spread quickly through social media, causing unnecessary alarm or, worse, directing attention away from genuine concerns. By establishing a direct and trusted channel between Monash Police and the thousands of residents who are members of our local Facebook groups, we aim to ensure that the information reaching your feed is reliable, verified, and actionable.
Through this partnership, local police will work closely with Neighbourhood Watch Monash and group administrators to share timely updates on incidents, safety alerts, and crime prevention advice — information that would previously have taken days to filter through to residents, if at all. Community group administrators play a vital role in this network, serving as trusted community gatekeepers who can amplify official messaging while maintaining the neighbourly, grassroots spirit that makes these groups so valued.
Together, we believe that an informed community is a safer community. This alliance is not just about sharing information — it is about building trust, strengthening relationships between residents and police, and fostering the kind of collective vigilance that makes Monash a place where everyone looks out for one another. We warmly invite local group administrators to support and engage with this initiative as we work together toward a safer, more connected Monash.
This group is managed and moderated by accredited memebers of Neighbourhood Watch Monash Inc. Please refer to our social media policy for rules.

1. By Invitation Only
Whist we are establishing our group, we are admitting administrators of local community groups and other relevant stakeholders by invitation only. Posts regarding incidents, suspects, or ongoing situations are sourced from our police liaisons or official Neighbourhood Watch updates.
2. Report First, Post Second
If you witness suspicious activity or a crime in progress, your first action should always be to contact Victoria Police — call 000 for emergencies or 131 444 for non-urgent matters. Social media is not a substitute for reporting to police, and timely reporting helps police also gather intelligence. Crime-stoppers can be used to submit anonymous reports which are followed up.
3. No Naming, Shaming, or Identifying Individuals
Do not post photos, videos, names, or identifying details of individuals suspected of wrongdoing. This includes partial descriptions that could lead to the targeting of innocent people. Allow police to conduct investigations appropriately. Avoid sharing unverified rumours, secondhand accounts, or speculation presented as fact when posting to our group.
4. No Vigilante Conduct
This group exists to inform, not to mobilise. Members must not use information shared here to confront, follow, or take independent action against any individual. Leave enforcement to the professionals.
5. Respect All Members of Our Community
Posts and comments must not target any person or group based on race, ethnicity, religion, age, gender, or appearance. Safety concerns must be described factually and without bias or stereotyping.
6. Trust the Process
Healthy scepticism is welcome; hostility toward police is not. Constructive questions and feedback about policing in our area are encouraged, but posts that are abusive toward Victoria Police or designed to undermine the alliance will be removed.
7. Protect Privacy
Do not share personal information about victims, witnesses, or any community member without their explicit consent. Be mindful that what you post is visible to a wide audience.
8. Keep It Relevant
Posts should relate to community safety, local incidents, crime prevention tips, or alliance updates. Off-topic content, advertising, and political posts will be removed by administrators. Multiple offences may result in a temporary ban or removal.
9. Administrators Have Final Say
Group administrators — accredited Neighbourhood Watch Monash volunteers and Victoria Police liaisons reserve the right to remove posts, warn members, or remove individuals from the group if these rules are not followed. Decisions will be made fairly and consistently.
10. We Are Neighbours
First above all, remember that this is a community of real people who live, work, and raise families in the same streets. Approach every interaction with empathy, goodwill, and the understanding that our shared goal is a safer, kinder Monash for everyone. Let's look out for each other.
